Over 300 people attend BCOE’s Annual Fuentes Culturales Academicos Conference in Santa Rosa
BCOE’s Mini Corps Program hosted the 25th Annual Fuentes Culturales Academicos Conference at Sonoma State on Saturday March 1, 2014.   Over 300 students, parents, and school staff from Sonoma, Lake, Napa, and Mendocino County attended a full day of workshops geared toward elementary students to provide them with confidence to attend college someday.    “What a powerful event for our youth.  It was great to see college students encouraging elementary students to believe in their dreams through writing, arts and literature,” commented Tim Taylor, BCOE Superintendent.   Students from different Northern California colleges provided workshops and classes as part of their internship in Mini-Corps or through service learning.   Cristina Reveles-Wagner, Mini Corps Administrator, coordinated the event and was provided a special thank you plaque for her 25 years of service at this event.  “Cristina and her Mini Corps students have worked in close collaboration with SSU, Migrant Education Advisor Program college interns and BCOE Migrant Education staff year after year to put on this life-changing event” said Elaine Pearson, Migrant Education Director.  “It was a magical day on campus for all.  Mini Corp students are replicas of Christina …caring, kind, compassionate, hard-working and diligent.”
